Set Up Guides - Microsoft Outlook / Outlook Express

The following guide explains how to set up a Host-It email account in Microsoft Outlook Express, while the visual appearance and names of some menu items have changed in recent versions, the principles outlined in this guide should get you up and running in most versions of the software.

After each step, click on 'Next' in your Outlook software..

Step 1.

Open Outlook Express and click on 'Tools' followed by 'Accounts'.

Step 2.

Make sure you are viewing the Mail accounts by clicking on 'Mail' at the top of the window.
Click on 'Add' and select 'Mail'.

Step 3.

Add the name you want to apepar in the 'From' field when you send mail to others. This is usually your name, or company name.

It does not affect the performance of your email and so can be any normal text you like.

Step 4.

When you send email out this is the address people will use to reply to you (Although it will display the name you added in step three).

It should be something like you rname or generic name such as 'sales' or 'info' then the '@' symbol followed by the unique part of your website address i.e. our is .

Step 5.

Make sure the top selection box is set to 'POP3'.

Next add the INCOMING mail server address. In most cases this will be 'mail.' followed by your domain name. for example 'mail.mydomain.co.uk' or 'mail.host-it.co.uk'.

The OUTGOING mail server address should be provided by the company who you use to connect to the internet. Host-It dialup or ADSL customers should Contact Us for this information.

Step 6.

Next add your email username and password. For Host-It customers this information can be set up via your Admin Panel.

Step 7.

Click 'Finish', your email account is now set up.

Optional - Step 8.

You will now see your new email account listed in the window from Step 2. It will probably be named using the 'Incoming Mail' address you entered in Step 5. If you want to give this a more descriptive name, just double click on the entry in the account list, alter it's name in the first input box (indicated below) and click on 'OK'.
